4 Key Points to consider for your next social media marketing campaign

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Social marketing campaigns are the current trend but what are some key points your business can follow?

Social media and social marketing campaigns have become the norm today. Social marketing campaigns such as Twitter, linked-in, and Facebook and have given people the chance to communicate with family, friends and colleagues too without spending a single penny. Individuals are also making use of social marketing campaigns for business and to make new friends who are like minded and share the same information as them.

Online marketing and social media have come along a long way. Industry professionals have come to realize this potential and social media agencies are now targeting certain sections of individuals to market products, services and even clients to various people who do show some interest.

The whole idea behind social marketing campaigns is that an effective social marketing campaign should give the individual users the resources so that they can share topics or any related data and information with other like minded people. Blogs, videos and even images are some of the ways to use the social media to get the interest of the targeted individuals.

If you have made up your mind to start a social marketing campaign, then here are a few points that you should note beforehand:

Key Point #1
Sit peacefully and decide the purpose of your social marketing campaign. What is the scope of this particular social marketing campaign? Do you want to change the attitudes or beliefs of a certain group of people? Does your campaign affect the masses or does it target specific group of people?

Key Point #2
Make a team and set your target and goal. Assign responsibilities right in the beginning and clearly define your goals. You have to do a bit of research even though you are not trying to sell a tangible product or belief. Statistics and facts have to be gathered and try to talk with industry experts so that you get valuable information that will help you later on.

Key Point #3
Product, price, place and promotion are 4 “P’s” that will go a long way in making this social marketing campaign a grand success. You should first target the required population for a successful social marketing campaign. The social marketing campaign should be highly personal. The message should be effective and target the required audience. Identify the key gatekeepers and stake holders who will partner with you this campaign. Position the product effectively i.e. understand the target audience’s views in order to maximize benefits. If the product is properly positioned the correct awareness in created and the desired message is sent across effectively. It should of course have a direct call to action.

Key Point #4
Last but not the least you have to get financial support for your social marketing campaign. You can take the help of an ad agency, a social media marketing team of consultants, or a government organization and sell your social marketing campaign concept to them and hope to raise the sufficient funds. Getting the funding these days to run a successful campaign are most seen with the big brands like university of phoenix, whole foods, jet blue, zappos, etc. But for small and mid-sized business which we focus on helping with social media, we continue to work on campaigns and are developing and improving upon our turn key systems for this market, so please stay tuned.

Is there anything that you are currently doing in your social media campaign that you need help with? Contact us today HERE and let us know any struggles you are having. We have been in the trenches consulting on these projects now for 9 months.

P.S. here is some feedback on a “Social Networking 101 for Colleges” workshop i did through Mira Costa College and the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (You Can click Here for a copy of the Brochure)

Top 5 Key Principles For Business I Learned While Attending Gravity Summit At Harvard

Friday, September 4th, 2009

First- What is Gravity Summit?

An almost 1 year old Social Media Authority that supports educates and empowers businesses on how they can add social media marketing into their business strategy. More on Gravity Summit Here:

Where was the Conference: Harvard Faculty Club, Boston Massachusetts and was actually streamed LIVE by CNN!

Length of the conference: 8 hours

Basic Outline: Actual Business Case Studies of how companies are using social media from companies like DirectTV, Red Cross, Intuit, Southwest, Dominoes Pizza, and many others. Keynotes from McHammer and Gary Vaynerchuck

Why did I go? I wanted to get a taste for the Harvard Experience as some of my instructors I had in college graduated from there, and brought some of the Harvard teaching principals into our classroom environment. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to see what life was like in Boston (My first time to the east coast) & also get some great information to bring back to the small business community we help support, educate, and empower with some of our social media campaigns that are sold now on a per project basis only for simplification.

Principal 1- Listen First-
This may sound simple for business people, but believe it or not, it can be very time consuming and require a lot of internet research. If you don’t have the time (I would suggest a minimum of an hour a day to start off getting educated and listening) then you may want to wait to get into this game/ landscape. You would be surprised at how many small business professionals I run across that have even a hard time with internet research. Mostly because they don’t have the time, but if small & mid-sized businesses are to start growing again, they MUST look for new innovative ways and out-side the box thinking to sustain. When your business is considering jumping into the online marketing space, social media marketing, or any form of marketing for that matter, know first where your customers are engaging online, what their concerns are with your products or services, and problems they may currently be facing. This helps you filter out a lot of the internet “noise” that exists. Then once you know this intelligence, have a solution/ better mouse trap or product/ service to provide, state your facts/ opinions, and engage the audience, but always try to provide VALUE to the community. Speaking of Community, that takes me into my next principal (stay tuned for tomorrows principal- this will be a series of 5 posts)

What principals would you add? Do you agree/ dis-agree with some of my principals? I am interested in hearing from all businesses (large and small)

3 reasons why social media marketing is like working out at the gym

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

social-media-marketing-plan, social-networking-for-business, social-media-strategy

Social media marketing and social networking for business use continues to grow. Thanks to all those social media authorities and industry experts, we are able to reflect and give you the business value of these tools and even teach our customers how to use these tools effectively.

I used to be a personal trainer at Bally’s (among many other things ive done in my career) and I thought to myself “What analogy can I use to help the business community understand social media marketing a little better?” And then as I was going to the gym today, I said, this is perfect! I will relate twitter, social networking and social media to working out. So here are the 3 reasons why social media marketing is like working out at the gym. Enjoy, and please leave a comment at the bottom on some of your analogies.

1. Being consistent with your workouts & wording- I must admit, I am not the most consistent person when it comes to the gym lately, yet I know the importance of working out regularly, eating right, and taking care of yourself. When you’re a workaholic like me, this can be a challenge. But I cannot stress enough the importance of building your online social media presence and personal or company brand online for long term success. This is a long term marketing strategy that goes along with other parts of your marketing mix, so work those online muscles regularly and engage, participate, and build value for the community (your prospects and clients)

2. Change up your online and off-line workout routine once in a while- At the gym, every month or two I switch up my routine because my body plateaus. You should do the same with your online marketing mix or social media mix. Do a podcast, shoot a you tube video, do a webinar, send out a newsletter, but always blog. This mixture of tactics with help you be a well rounded online business professional and help build your content for your user base. Remember, this all takes TIME.

3. Learn from the pros at the gym and the online gurus- We know the famous bodybuilders: Ronnie Coleman, Lou Ferrigno, Arnold, etc. Do you know who your internet celebrities are? What are their specialties? What separates them from the others? Always be following and listening to the gurus in the online world because these people will teach you many tips and tricks of the trade so you can start implementing for your own online marketing tactics or strategies. Believe me, I have been doing this for about a year now and it has saved me so much time in research by understanding what they do. Hopefully you are still one of my readers from the beginning of January when we started this social networking and social media for business journey together and have learned a thing or two from this blog 🙂

What 4 Key Questions Should You Ask When Launching A Social Marketing Campaign?

Monday, August 10th, 2009

social-media-marketing, social-networking-for-business, social-media-consultants
Social marketing campaigns can be basically implemented in a local, regional or national level or a combination of any of these levels. Each social marketing campaign can be custom made to reach the desired targeted audience regardless where they are located.

The initial concept of social marketing was a result of blending ideas and principles of commercial marketing with the public health’s desire to promote and provide social behavior in individuals. At present, social media sites are seeing a virtual explosion and you have to be in touch with the virtual world to stay in touch with these instant message networks and relevant information for your market and industry. Try and target specific groups or individuals during your social networking campaigns to ensure that your product reaches the right people.

Social marketing campaigns aim at influencing the ideas, attitudes and behaviors of target individuals in order to improve personal as well as social welfare through commercial marketing technologies especially using the internet. The term “social marketing” and “mass media” are used interchangeably but the main difference is that social marketing uses a wide range of communications method to influence and benefit society and not merely to increase sales.

Just like the process of commercial marketing, social marketing deals with four aspects of a consumer and how they deal with products. For example,

1. What product is required for this consumer?

Social marketing serves to pinpoint and enforce consumer needs like medical procedures, heath initiatives, or health ideas like preservation of the environment and recycling. Here social marketing serves as a research tool to find out what the consumer needs and possible products to make them to take action towards achieving it.

2. What would be the ideal price of the product?

The price of the product is determined to allow the consumer to decide what they would be willing to pay for a product and using social media marketing or social marketing can provide quick feedback. Social marketing allows vendors to listen to the audience feedback on what they might be willing to pay for such products or services.

3. Where can they get the product?

Through this aspect of social marketing campaigns, consumers are assured of a good supply of the product along with distribution systems, warehouses and retail outlets where the product is sold and will be readily available. Social marketing ensures that the customer will have up to date and relative information of the product as and when he or she requires it once the product or service is ready to be released to the market. Don’t forget the social media strategy of building up the “online buzz” prior to product or service launch to generate more interest much quicker than traditional marketing mediums.

4. How will you be Promoting the product?

Although this is the least important aspect of social marketing, it’s often the most visible and thus mistakenly considered the most important. Using social networking and social media for business to promote products and services to various online networks is a science that must be communicated in a marketing combined with an engaging way with the audience. This can be critical to the success of the online marketing campaign, and with the right strategy, social networking san diego can help your form a successful social marketing campaign.

These questions basally are the building blocks of the social marketing campaign. A social marketing campaign should provide additional information to the audience’s so that they can take the ‘next step’ forward in the buying process. Almost all social marketing campaigns are a long term investment, as society needs time to accept changes and changes cannot be made by individuals overnight. A strategic social marketing campaign may require a lot of time to reach the particular objective but we help do the work for you by the many proven research techniques we use. This is why clients partner with us and trust us to help conduct these campaigns and get them trained to be involved in their online community.

The internet has become the most talked about medium of communication. It is the quickest way of launching an advertising campaign and you will find that customers and audiences can interact with the campaigns almost directly and instantly. Social networking campaigns and social media agencies are now making a lot of money utilizing this social marketing boom to its fullest. But are they producing ROI? Are they producing results? Here are some of our case studies here for some recent campaigns we ran: (click here)

Connectivity and engaging with people is the most essential feature for social networking campaigns to gather momentum and keep going. If there is no interaction, social marketing campaigns fail to perform up to the expected levels and do not go viral. Marketing efforts over the social media have seen positive as well as negative impacts with larger audiences.

Addictive and viral campaigns often catch the public’s attention sooner, but blow out faster if they do not interest and engage the customer. Designing the proper online marketing strategy is like a science, with many variables.

Take the case of Facebook. This social network is more of a communication between friends, colleagues and relatives that has becomes very tough for the marketing community to monetize. The majority of Facebook users do not like the marketing advertisements that pop up as it causes a distraction to users who are more interested in chatting with long lost relatives and friends.

The world is going tech savvy and by the year 2015, nearly half of all purchases will surely have some web-based element in them. The purchase could be offline or online, it does not matter at all. It could merely mean that the customer is reading or browsing for a new product on a blog, website, then reading news updates and simply comparing prices of the product online or through a networking site. But almost all sales will be related to the internet.

Social networking campaign specialists like Social Networking San Diego can utilize social networking campaigns and ensure good word of mouth sales for their clients chosen products. Just getting people to talk about the product is not enough. You have to clearly define whether the existing technology is sufficient or whether you should focus on discussions, videos, voting, PPC, etc. to promote your product. Companies big and small can take part online now and develop social networking campaigns and strategies to promote their business whether a product or service based business, we can develop and implement your social media marketing campaign the right way.

What in the heck is social media marketing anyway? You want me to do what with my client?

social media marketing, social networking for business, social networking business, social media strategy, social networking strategy, social media strategy, hashtags on twitter, snsd

Social Media Marketing is a new form of online marketing using social media websites like you tube, podcasting, syndicating content, and many other web 2.0 websites to ENGAGE partners, customers, and potential clients. Social media marketing is exploding right now and your business should be getting involved sooner than later. The big thing to remember about social media is that its “social”. Traditional media companies are realizing that consumers are getting frustrated with traditional marketing tactics and we even have Tivo to fast forward through commercials now. If you think this is easy, think again. It will require a technology savvy company who understands strategy, marketing, branding, community building, and good content writing for starters. So a local college student tweeting for you, posting on facebook, writing your blog, and doing your discussions in linked-in might not be the best fit. Maybe you should get your business development and sales team some training on one of these social networking websites from our CEO JustinRFrench by going here: Twitter 101 or Linked-In 101 for Business Coaching/ Training and see how our clients are seeing an increase in their business by learning how to leverage these social media marketing tools.

“ I give it a “10” FOR SURE! ”

Top 4 ways SMB market can achieve success with social networking, social marketing, and social media for business continued

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

social media consultants, social media instructors, social networking for business, social media teachers, social marketing strategy, social networking consultant, business consultants, social media engagements

3. My executive team and I have been consulting with the SMB market for many years. Because we have worked in MANY different industries and capacities such as financial, healthcare, manufacturing, and service, we have been diversified and can provide the proper solution to various online marketing challenges no matter what business they are in. The processes and systems we use are very similar. For me, it’s just like starting a business. Once you start one business, you can start another, it’s just maybe a different target market, product, service, or business model, but the foundations to conducting business are very similar.

We have developed a systematic process of identifying core business problems and challenges with marketing, establishing a framework, agreeing on deliverables, and implementing the proper solution for our clients. The workflow we have created is proprietary and clients have been blown away at the efficiency and results it creates for their company. We make our clients aware that things may not always go according to plan, but they are rest assured knowing we have the right problem solving capabilities, the team in place, and the same concepts we have employed for years that has been largely successful for several other clients. Not to mention a lot of this is due to the trust factor we have gained over the years. At the end of the day, that is what companies pay us to do- solve their online marketing problems. Whether its strategy, planning, training, consulting, implementation, etc. Companies need to go above and beyond for their clients these days and I am seeing this everyday thanks to social networking sites like twitter. Doing business online is a HUGE complexity and sadly many companies have been burned. Just like when I was in the IT field, we had to establish trust first before our clients accepted us. We achieved this by selling ourselves, not just our products or services. Think of doing business on the internet like a science- a science we reveal to our signed clients just how everything ties together for great business success on the internet.
